Why finding a good cloud bookkeeper for you and your business is so important….and why I could be what you are looking for..
Qualified to do the job?
- Check their credentials and their experience, especially if they are looking after any VAT, PAYE, Personal Tax or Self-Assessment.
- Being an HMRC Agent (for VAT/PAYE/SelfAssessment) means that they have met all the anti-money laundering checks and legal requirements (and can also submit your tax returns on your behalf if you wanted).
Licensed?
Having a Licence means they are Licensed to Practice, either as an accountant or as a bookkeeper depending on the qualification and have a Licence Number from an accounting body such as The Association of Accounting Technicians who is the world’s leading professional body for Accounting Technicians, or ICAEW, ACCA, CIPFA or CIMA who are chartered bodies.
Qualities?
A good bookkeeper will be trustworthy, reliable and experienced, after all, you are going to be placing all your day to day business paperwork in their hands, and they will have access to your business operations and confidential information. They will also be highly organized and good communicators.
Cloud?
A good cloud bookkeeper will be familiar with cloud software, keep themselves up to date with developments in cloud accounting software and apps, and will have verified experience (most cloud accounting software providers provide training and badges/certificates on completion). e.g. Xero Advisor. See information on why you need to move your books to the cloud.
The right person for you?
Of course, it is important that after all this you must actually like and get along with them as you are going to be working closely together, hopefully for a long time. You need to be reassured they have your best interests at heart. This comes down to personal preference and a face to face meeting or two is important either in person or over video call.
When this is in place you will then be able rest easy and to focus your attention on your business knowing that your bookkeeper or accountant is keeping your books both in order and compliant, but more importantly up to date and tax efficiently.

Am I that person?
If you are a business owner who wants to spend less time on your paperwork and you want a proactive, interested and committed bookkeeper (not just a satellite paid for ‘function’ ) who will be part of your wider team helping you towards your business goals, then I would be delighted to hear from you.
